Perbedaan seatmate dan chairmate terletak pada makna yang terkandung pada kedua kata tersebut. Seatmate dan chairmate adalah 2 kosa kata dalam bahasa inggris yang memiliki arti mirip. Seatmate berarti teman duduk sedangkan chairmate berarti teman sebangku. Namun makna keduanya cukup berbeda. Berikut penjelasannya.

Penjelasan:

Chairmate berasal dari chair (kursi/bangku) + mate (teman), sedangkan seatmate berasal dari seat (tempat duduk) + mate (teman). Sebelum berbicara mengenai makna keduanya sebaiknya kita mengetahui perbedaan antara seat dan chair.

Seat adalah bagian dari perlengkapan biasanya ditemukan di pesawat, mobil, bioskop, kereta api, dan lain-lain. Seat memiliki makna yang luas dan tidak kaku, sehingga seat dapat berupa tempat duduk tanpa sandaran atau tidak memiliki 4 kaki. Yang penting ialah seat merupakan tempat untuk duduk. Ciri utama dari seat adalah tidak dapat dipindahkan.

Chair adalah perabotan dalam kantor, rumah, sekolah, atau bangunan lain. Chair adalah suatu benda yang digunakan untuk duduk. Chair memiliki model yang kaku yaitu memiliki 4 kaki dan sandaran. Selain itu berbeda dengan seat, chair dapat dipindahkan.

Dari makna keduanya kita dapat mengetahui makna seatmate dan chairmate. Seatmate berarti teman duduk, dimana seseorang berbagi tempat duduk yang sama dengan orang lain. Sedangkang chairmate berarti teman sebangku, dimana 2 orang duduk bersebelahan di kursi yang berbeda.

Note: Perlu kamu ketahui, kata seatmate bukanlah kata yang umum digunakan dalam bahasa inggris, baik dalam American English maupun British English kata ini sangat jarang ditemui. Sebagai alternatif untuk kata seatmate digunakan kata “neighbor” atau “person sitting next to me” yang berarti orang yang duduk disebelahku.
